One sheet (of six) from Cassini's map of the United States. The Sesto Foglio, or Sixth Sheet, is an unusual map featuring an inset of Newfoundland and the Gulf of St. Lawrence, including I. S. Giovanni or St. John's Island, present day Prince Edward Island. However, in the upper left corner of the map, Charleston, South Carolina, is depicted, while in the lower left corner several Bahamian islands are shown. Giovanni Maria Cassini (1745-1824) was a geographer, cartographer, and engraver working in Rome during the decades between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He's most famous as a maker of globes.
