Karl Douglas MacKeeman (1948 - 2025) was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He spent much of his childhood between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, where his love for art began at a young age. He went on to study painting and printmaking at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, with a strong focus on fine arts and art history. His career started with several universities across Nova Scotia in the fields of art and writing. His passion for travel took him to many places across Canada and around the world. Eventually, he moved to Papua New Guinea to teach art, and immersed himself in the local culture and community. After returning to Prince Edward Island with his family, he established Hillside Graphics, a sign shop, whose work remains visible throughout the Maritimes - and even internationally, in Tokyo. Karl also remained committed to teaching art in schools across the island. When not immersed in his art, Karl could often be found fly-fishing, cruising the Island on his motorcycle, or relaxing with his beloved cat; Muse. Karl MacKeeman died in Charlottetown.
