Lee Stewart (b. 1972, Perthshire, Scotland)
Lee Stewart is a Scottish watercolourist known for his direct, plein-air approach to landscape painting. Born in Perthshire in 1972, he trained and worked in Scotland before relocating to Prince Edward Island where he was active around 2012. Stewart’s work from this period reflects an interest with the maritime light and open terrain of the Island. His loose yet controlled handling of wash and pigment conveys the transient atmospheres of snow and sky typical of coastal Maritime Canada. By the mid-2010s, Stewart had returned to the United Kingdom, where he continues to paint and exhibit. The present work likely dates from his Canadian sojourn and exemplifies his characteristic balance of fluid spontaneity and compositional clarity.
